If you’ve kept up with this site over the past few years, it’s no secret that I’m both a blowhard and a narcissist. I like to hear myself talk almost as much as I love to be right and lord it over those who were so very, very wrong. As I start to ramp up the content on GolfbyBryan in advance of the meat of the 2017 PGA TOUR season, I’d like to start by making some bold (and probably bad) predictions.

Tiger Woods will have 3 top-5 finishes but no wins: It’s clear based on his play at the Hero World Challenge that Tiger sill has it. What’s also clear is that he has precisely none of the mystique he once held over his opponents. Tiger is the GOAT, and being the GOAT can take you a lot of places, but he’s going to be a bridesmaid for the remainder of his career.

Jordan Spieth will win 2 majors: I read this piece the other day which examines a prop bet at 15:1 odds that one player will win more than one major. I agree with the assesment, but my pick probably isn’t the popular one. With Dustin, Jason, Patrick and Rory in top form, it’s Jordan Spieth who I’m picking to double up. I think he’s built for Augusta, and should fare very well at both Royal Birkdale and Quail Hollow. I don’t like himat Erin Hills, but I think he’s got the moxie to do some damage after a tough campaign.

Rory doesn’t win a major, Fedex Cup or WGC event: Rory is as talented as any player on the planet. I mean, he literally hits it  a quarter mile. While he was able to ride that talent to some big wins during the “Tiger vacuum” (note: I’m trademarking that shit), I don’t think he’s got the mental toughness to compete with a new crop of players who have shown a propensity to close. I predict that he gets shut out of the big events in 2017 despite competing in most of them.
