It was a week of mixed emotions on the PGA TOUR for Northwest players. Hot starts by Ryan Moore and Michael Putnam saw both players in the top 5 entering the final round of the Travelers Championship with Moore alone atop the leaderboard. Both men shot disappointing 71’s on Sunday and coupled with Kevin Streelman’s unusually streaky finish, both players stumbled down the leaderboard. Putnam’s T-11 finish earned him some much needed FedEx Cup points, moving him well inside the cut line into 101st place. Moore’s T-5 finish vaulted him 2 spots from 19th to 17th. Ben Crane, after a entering Sunday -5, shot a 79 to finish alone in 74th place.
This past weekend saw one of the better overall leaderboards of the season as Seattle veteran Jeff Gove finished T3 and Olympia’s Andres Gonzales finished T5 at the Air Capital Classic. Gonzales had a share of 2nd place coming into the final round, but a -1 69 saw him fall 3 spots with a flurry of low numbers on Sunday. One of those numbers was from Gove, who entered Sunday in 7th position. Gove parred his first 10 holes before two biridies and an eagle on his next 5 gave him a -4 31 on the back 9. Tacoma’s Andrew Putnam continued building on his spectacular season with another top 25, his 8th in 12 events.
PGA Tour Canada
Clarkston, WA native and University of Washington alum Joel Dahmen won his 2nd event in 3 starts on the PGA TOUR CANADA on Sunday. Dahmen went wire to wire after opening with a -9 63 to win by 5 shots at -22 total. With the win Dahmen essentially locks up a top 5 place on the money list and 2015 Web.Com tour status. British Columbia natives Eugene Wong, Ryan Williams and Sean Harlingten as well as Dahmen’s teammate and Idaho native Chris Williams were among those to make the cut.
