Sun Country Golf & RV is a little gem that doesn’t get a whole lot of press. It lies in the giant shadow of it’s bigger brother, Suncadia. Don’t be fooled by lack of marketing glitz, this place is a neat little test. My collegue and I managed to get on Wednesday around 2pm with no wait. We paid $22 for 9 holes with a cart. On the winding drive in from the freeway, we saw the massive drop on the Par 3 15th hole. So it was decided, we were going to play the back 9.

Here lies the only real gripe I have with this place, the layout. The first hole tees off from the club house and the front nine takes you out to the edge of the property out near I-90. It doesn’t head back towards the clubhouse for a “turn”. In fact, the 9th hole is about as far away from the clubhouse as you can get. So we jaunted up the hill to 10th tee. Approaching the green, it looked different. I’m not sure what type of grass they use, but it looks like, for lack of a better comparison old astroturf carpet. They play very fast with some nice undulation that’s not super penalizing. There were some burn and ball marks, but they roll fairly true.

There is a small clubhouse with some drinks and logo balls, but the amenities are lacking. All in all this course provides a nice short test of target golf. Final score 37/60.
